High School Students Guidelines 

NOTE: High School students must have a minimum of a 3.0 overall GPA and are limited to one course per semester.

Home Schooled Students - Requirements are the same for home schooled students as the high school students, except for the high school transcripts. Other documentation such as PSAT scores, credit by exam, etc., are used to determine the student's academic ability.

A Prehealth Course of Study

Information for Students Enrolling in the Community Scholar Program to Satisfy Courses for Graduate School or Professional School Admission   If you are interested in enrolling in the Community Scholar Program to complete the prerequisite coursework for graduate programs and professional degree programs, the following information may be helpful to you.   Graduate Courses If you desire to enroll in graduate level courses, proof of your degree will be required at the time of your registration.  Verification of your degree can range from copies of your diploma or certificate to actual college transcripts and must be presented when you register for your desired course(s) at the Charlottesville Center, 104 Midmont Lane.   

Community Scholars that are considering applying to a graduate program, can explore the University Career Services Website.  This site provides a number of applicable links and helpful information in preparing and planning for graduate school and specialized programs of study.   Additional Information for Students Interested in Admission to Medical Schools and Other Health Professional Programs For those seeking admission to medical school or other health professional programs, you may be interested in enrolling in two courses which involve a dependent lab and/or discussion group, exceeding the 8.0 credit hour maximum for the Community Scholar Program.  Through the University of Virginia’s University Career Service Website, you will be able to access a number of applicable links and organizations, versed in the needed prerequisites for these areas of interest.              

If you are interested in enrolling in two courses and the dependent labs and/or discussion group,  you will need to obtain a signature of an Associate Dean at the College of Arts and Sciences (in addition the authorization of the course instructors and lab instructors).  The required signatures are listed on the bottom of the College of Arts and Sciences Permission to Enroll form, Please contact the Charlottesville Center at (434) 982-4789 for a printed copy of the Permission to Enroll form.  

University of Virginia Employees - University of Virginia employees with one year of full-time service to the University register through the Community Scholar Program. The one year of service is consistent with the University Tuition Waiver Program, which is viewed as a benefit to employees.  Participants are required to obtain the requested signatures and sign up for classes, as do all other Community Scholars.
